The term ' Myotherapy' comes from the Greek term 'mys' meaning muscles.
Myotherapy involves the assessment and treatment of myofascial pain, muscular injury and dysfunction, which in turn affect movement and mobility. Myotherapy can be applied in the preventative, corrective and rehabilitative phase of injury to restore and maintain the normal integrity of muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia of the body. The purpose of Myotherapy treatment is to decrease muscular tension and pain, improve flexibility and correct muscular strength.
Our Myotherapists use specific soft tissue techniques such as deep tissue massage, myofascial release, muscle mobilisation and trigger point therapy to treat pain or restrictions caused by tight muscles or fascia.
At Flex Sports Physiotherapy our Myotherapists are also qualified and skilled in dry needling. Dry needling is an effective treatment technique used to eliminate trigger points in muscle tissue. Dry needling involves insertion of acupuncture needles into the skin and muscle directly at myofascial trigger points.
Our Myotherapists and Physiotherapists work closely together to provide complete injury management for all of our clients.
